The following is from the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Zone 8
Location: 100 block of E. Marion Street, Newton, Jasper County
Date/Time: June 8, 2023 at approximately 6:00 a.m.
Brief Synopsis: Preliminary information indicates the following occurred: ISP DCI Zone 8 agents were requested by the Newton Police Department to investigate an aggravated battery which occurred at the above location. The victim was airlifted to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries. This investigation is active and ongoing, and no additional information will be released at this time.
