When we support others in our community, our community as a whole becomes stronger. Sometimes this support can be where we shop, what events we go to, or whom we help achieve their dreams, other times it can be even more simple. It can be repainting a clothesline, building a ramp, or even cleaning cabinets and chatting with an elderly person.
Honey Do Ministries is about more than just fixing broken things or building new, it is about creating bonds, strengthening the community and supporting those who live around us through service. For one week a year, many men, women, and children come together and truly exemplify what Jasper County is about by providing services to many in the community who may not otherwise be able to afford to have them done. Some of these men, along with others, continue this work throughout the year on projects that come up or were unable to be completed during the work week.
These people give their time, talents, and love to brighten a situation and create good. During the work week, there are people from all over who come to work and if they complete their project early they travel to another project and help out there. The teamwork of these groups creates a unity many communities would envy. The know and understand that alone they can do so little, but together they can do so much.
There is a group from Charleston that comes each year and a group of teens from Chicago who come for the week. This year, there is also several who are staying with grandparents for the week and are working while here. All age groups and skill levels are welcomed with kindness and consideration and everyone who enters the Grace United Methodist Church for the breakfast meeting and devotion before dividing up the workload is met with smiles, laughter, and a family feel.
This group exemplifies what a community truly is. No one person is seeking recognition or fanfare, even as a group they seek none. They quietly and quickly go about completing their tasks to the best of their abilities knowing they have made a difference in the lives of others.
There is still time to help with the 2019 Honey Do Ministries Work Week. Tuesday through Friday the group will continue to meet at Grace United Methodist Church each morning at 7:15. There will be breakfast and a devotion before tasks are divided up for the day. You do not have to be there at 7:15 to help, they gladly accept help throughout the day if you can only spare a few hours. If you would like more info or if you are planning on bring a large or specifically skilled group please contact Debbie (618) 554-4987 or Quincy (618) 553-4690.
This is a non-profit program and runs off of donations from churches and individuals. If you would like to donate, you can contact either Debbie or Quincy and they can assist with that as well.
