Jasper County held its annual Veterans Day program on November 11th. The Newton Marching Eagles performed to start the program. Minister Anthony Harris SFC US Army with 12 years of service including 3 deployments, Afghanistan was the speaker and also performed the invocation and benediction. He also presented the memorial for 2nd Lt. James Lee Diel, Easy Co. 506th PIR, Band of Brothers, WW2, KIA.
The Star Spangled Banner was performed by Lucy Bierman, Garridan Goss, Ella Radke, Charlotte Schackmann, and Isaac Street along with the song “America the Beautiful”.
A special mention was given to Walter (Chip) Urfer U.S. Navy who is 100 years old and the last surviving WW2 Veteran at Ste. Marie Post 932.
The firing of the volleys was completed by the Jasper County Veterans.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Newton Elementary’s 6th Grade Leadership Team.
Taps and Echo Taps was played by Ella Radke and Cayden Goode.
and the 2nd annual Quilt of Honor was presented by Jacque Holsapple from the Newton Public Library to Lawrence Pilman.
