Loretta M. Mitchell, age 85, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, formerly of Olney, Illinois, passed away at 1:55 AM,
Thursday, July 25, 2024, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
There will be a memorial for Loretta at the Cornerstone Community Church in Noble Illinois at 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Olney, Illinois.

Loretta was born on August 7, 1938, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Harrison E. and Rosa (Bunting) Jones. She married Richard Leon Mitchell on August 13, 1956, in Olney, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2007.
Loretta enjoyed life. She was always ready to help those in need whenever she could. She was the mom who would take in wayward kids that needed a place to stay, food to eat, or clothes to wear. With her husband being in the Military, she worked at the Mess Hall serving the young men in uniform. At Thanksgiving, she would go to the U.S.O. and would get some of the Airmen who didn’t have a place to go, or their family was too far away, and take them home for a homemade Thanksgiving Meal. She worked in different donut shops and diners over the years.
Loretta was very witty and funny. She loved making her family, especially her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, laugh. She loved crafting, especially crocheting. She owned a little shop in West Salem called Mamma’s Corner, where she sold ceramics and other items that she had made. In her younger days as a mother and wife, she sold Tupperware and Avon where she had won and couple of trips.
Loretta loved and adored her family, and never missed a graduation or wedding of her children or grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Richard (Cheryl) Mitchell Jr. of Mt. Carmel, Illinois;
Robin Mitchell of Albion, Illinois;
Troy (Jackie) Mitchell of Sidney, Illinois;
Angela Mitchell of Olney, Illinois;
and Julie (Bill) Henshaw of Indianapolis, Indiana
14 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren
Brother – Timothy Jones of Louisville, Illinois
Sister – Janice (Mike) Kern of Olney, Illinois
Loretta is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Gerry Mitchell, daughter-in-law Paula Sue Mitchell,
granddaughter Summer Jo Mitchell, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
