Newton Volleyball Sweeps Robinson, Improves to 14-10
The Newton Community High School volleyball program had a dominant night on the court Wednesday, October 2, as all three levels earned straight-set victories over Robinson.
The freshmen set the tone early, rolling to a 25-14, 25-8 win. The junior varsity followed with a hard-fought sweep, 25-16, 25-22, keeping their momentum strong.
The varsity squad then capped the evening with a commanding performance, defeating the Lady Maroons 25-11, 25-14, improving their overall record to 14-10 on the season.
Varsity Highlights
Newton’s balanced attack and strong serving made the difference. Sophomore Stella Schackmann (#1, Right Side) led the serving game with 4 aces, while junior Allie Hermann (#9, Outside) added 3 aces and senior Hydi Bierman (#3, Outside) chipped in 1 ace.
At the net, Bierman once again paced the Eagles with 7 kills, followed by Hermann with 4, Schackmann with 3, seniors Isabel Meinhart (#7, Middle) and Joslynn Pitcher (#16, Middle) with 2 each, junior Claire Probst (#11, Middle) with 2, and junior setter Amy Shull (#19) with 1.
Shull directed the offense efficiently, dishing out 11 assists, while sophomore Emma Brooks (#21) added 3, Pitcher contributed 2, and Bierman and sophomore Maleah Miller (#4) each tallied 1.
Defensively, Hermann led the back row with 7 digs, while senior libero Morgan Schafer (#6) added 4. Bierman, Miller, Probst, and Shull each chipped in a dig as well. At the net, Hermann and Pitcher each recorded a block to slow Robinson’s attack.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Eagles now turn their focus to tournament play as they compete in the Freshman/Sophomore Tournament at Teutopolis on Saturday, October 4, starting at 9 a.m.
With the regular season winding down, Newton continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
