Eagles Celebrate Homecoming with 24–21 Victory Over Robinson

The lights were bright and the stands were packed Friday night at Chizevsky Field as the Newton Eagles celebrated Homecoming 2025 with a hard-fought 24–21 victory over the Robinson Maroons. The game capped off an evening filled with community pride, student spirit, and Eagle grit.

Before kickoff, the 50th-year class was honored, followed by the coronation of Homecoming King Owen Schackmann and Queen Kylie Higgs. At halftime, members of the 25-year class football team were recognized for their past contributions to Newton athletics, and the Newton Marching Eagles performed their award-winning show Pipe Dreams, drawing loud applause from the home crowd.

First Half Fireworks

After a defensive first quarter, Robinson broke through early in the second with a short touchdown run by quarterback Reese Johnson to take a 7–0 lead. But Newton wasted no time answering back. Quarterback Hayden Mulvey orchestrated a seven-play, 73-yard drive capped by Quincy Fulton’s one-yard touchdown run. Henry Will’s extra point tied the score at 7–7.

On the ensuing kickoff, Robinson’s A.J. Knoblett returned the ball 79 yards for a touchdown, giving the Maroons a brief 13–7 advantage. However, the Eagles countered instantly — Mulvey found Fulton on a short route that turned into a 79-yard sprint to the end zone, reclaiming the lead 14–13 at halftime and igniting the Newton crowd.

Fulton’s Triple Threat Performance

Junior running back Quincy Fulton turned in a career night, scoring all three of Newton’s touchdowns — two on the ground and one through the air — while racking up 152 receiving yards and 144 total offensive yards.

Quarterback Hayden Mulvey was masterful under center, completing 14 of 17 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown while adding 62 rushing yards. His efficiency and poise helped keep the offense rolling against a tough Robinson defense.

In the third quarter, Fulton struck again with a five-yard touchdown run, extending Newton’s lead to 21–13. Then, in the fourth, kicker Henry Will drilled a 28-yard field goal, giving Newton a crucial two-score advantage.

Robinson scored late and added a two-point conversion to close within three points, but Newton’s offense ran down the clock to secure the win, improving to (insert updated record if known) on the season.

Defensive Strength and Key Plays

Newton’s defense came up with timely stops throughout the night. Harrison Kinkade led the charge with 12 total tackles, including one sack and two tackles for loss, while Grayson Lingafelter tallied seven tackles and a stop behind the line.

Carson Jones, Parker Harris, and Dominic Baltzell each added crucial tackles in the red zone, while Mack Huber and Reed Tharp helped plug the interior against Robinson’s run game.

The special teams also played a pivotal role — Will went 3-for-3 on extra points and 1-for-1 on field goals, while Dexter Fulton and Grayson Lingafelter contributed steady returns to help set up field position.

Homecoming Tradition and Community Pride

The night was about more than just football. Alumni, students, and families filled the bleachers in a sea of orange and blue, celebrating Newton’s long-standing traditions. The 50th-year class took the field before the coronation, receiving a warm welcome from the crowd, while the 25-year class football team was honored for their legacy during halftime.

The Newton Marching Eagles followed with their high-energy halftime show Pipe Dreams, showcasing precision, creativity, and the unmistakable spirit of the Eagle band program.
