City of Newton Announces Fall Leaf Vacuum Schedule and Yard Waste Facility Hours

The City of Newton’s Street Department will begin its annual leaf vacuuming program on Monday, November 3rd, operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The service will continue through the end of November and may extend into the first week of December if needed.
Residents are reminded to place their leaves on the roadside of the ditch near the street or at the edge of the street. The city’s leaf vacuum cannot reach across ditches, so leaves must be placed on the street side only. To ensure safety and efficiency, leaves should not be placed on the roadway, where they could interfere with traffic.
The service is for leaves only—no twigs, sticks, or limbs will be collected.
For pickup requests or questions, residents may contact City Hall at 618-783-8451 between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. After hours, calls can be directed to the Street Department at 618-783-8511, where a message may be left with an address and phone number.
In addition, the City of Newton Yard Waste Facility, located at 10318 E. 1050th St., will be open every Saturday in November from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This site is for Newton residents only and no commercial dumping is allowed.
Accepted materials include grass, leaves, small limbs, and other yard or garden waste. All bags must be emptied and taken home. Items such as painted wood, paper products, plastics, cardboard, and root wads are not permitted.
The City encourages residents to take advantage of these seasonal services to help keep Newton clean and beautiful throughout the fall.
