Michael Kennedy, son of Kevin and Rebecca Kennedy, will be attending Lincoln Trail College as a member of the golf team. During his time at NCHS, Michael was also an active participant in BETA Club.
What made you decide this school was the best fit for you?
I believe Lincoln Trail was the best school for me because I have played at their home course multiple times and I believe that Lincoln Trail will make me into a better golfer and a better person. They also have the program that I am wanting to go into.
How do you feel NCHS has prepared you for this next step in life?
NCHS has prepared me for the next step in life by challenging me to work on communication, leadership, and self confidence. These three skills I think are crucial as I walk down this new path in my life.
What are at least two life lessons you have learned from sports?
The first life lesson I have learned from sports is if you are unsure about an opportunity you have been given that could benefit your life then you should take the chance. I heard a quote one time that said, “If you think the price of winning is too high, wait till you get the bill for regret”. So with any opportunity that I have been given now I plan to take the chance because you never know how that chance will change your life. The second life lesson I have learned is to cherish every moment you are given. You never know when it will be your last time playing sports, seeing your friends, or spending time with some of your family members so cherish the little and big chances you are given.
How have your coaches (and assistant coaches) helped prepare you to play at a collegiate level?
My coaches have prepared me to play at the collegiate level by telling me things that I have done right and things that I need to work on. This has helped me build my character and has improved my golf game as well.
What will you miss the most next year about not being at NCHS?
The thing I will miss most next year about not being at NCHS is the friends and local support. I was very blessed to have my town rally around me and my team. Without the support from my community NCHS golf would not be where it is today.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would just like to say that I am so thankful for the last 4 years of my life. If I could go back and relive them I definitely would. Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey because without your help I would not be where I am today. I’ve learned a lot about myself
these last four years and I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped me build my character. I’d also like to give some advice to others that are just starting their journey down this high school experience. Don’t rush through high school, enjoy the moments while you still have them because high school is where you start to see big changes and who you are becoming. High school has helped me find my path and I will forever be grateful for that. If you are unsure about a path you want to take then reach out to people around you. That’s one thing that I have been so blessed to have is a community that is willing to help. Believe in yourself because you never know how far you can get if you don’t believe in your own capabilities. I’m not saying there won’t be days where you feel like doing nothing or you’re unmotivated to keep moving forward in life. But what I can say is that if you continue to put one foot in front of the other no matter how
fast or slow you want to go then you will see change in your life. Everyone goes through rough periods in life but I believe that those rough times are what define us into people we are today and who we are becoming. Lastly I just want to say thank you for this wonderful opportunity that you guys have helped me reach. Without everyone’s support this would not have been possible. I’m excited for what comes next in my golf future and the person that I am becoming. Thank you
everyone!
