Lawrenceville Pulls Away Late to Defeat Newton

NEWTON — The Newton Eagles came up short at home Saturday afternoon, falling to the Lawrenceville Indians 61-52 in boys basketball action.

The game was tightly contested early, with both teams trading baskets in the opening quarter. Newton stayed within striking distance through the first half, but Lawrenceville began to take control after halftime.

Lawrenceville outscored Newton in the third quarter, creating separation as Newton struggled to generate consistent offense. Despite efforts to close the gap in the fourth quarter, the Eagles were unable to overcome the deficit, as Lawrenceville capitalized at the free-throw line and finished strong down the stretch.

Defensively, Newton worked to contain Lawrenceville’s perimeter shooting, but turnovers and missed opportunities proved costly. The Eagles continued to battle until the final horn, showing effort on both ends of the floor despite the result.

Newton will look to regroup and clean up execution as the season continues.
