Jasper County Community Unit #1, Board of Education Meeting

Superintendent’s Report:

The Board of Education heard a legislative update from Springfield.
At this time, school funding is a topic of discussion.
- The Evidence Based Funding Model in the governor’s budget will be fully funded.
- Regular Transportation funding will be prorated again this upcoming school year at 67%.
  - In state funding for transportation, JCCU #1 has seen a decrease of $259,997 from 2024 to 2026.
  - The loss of funding will continue into fiscal year 27.
- This trend will also continue in Special Education Transportation Funding as well.
- As a District who travels over 600,000 miles a year to transport students, funding for transportation is crucial.
The Board also heard updates on the Newton Elementary Building Project which will begin at the end of the month.
Building and Grounds update included projects to replace access entry points at NES and a sewer project at NCHS.

New Business:

Approved Membership for IESA and IHSA Sports
Approved Amended Calendar for the 2025-2026 School Year.
- The last day of school as of this calendar is May 22 with TI on May 26.
- The District will not be making up the March 11, 2026 Act of God day over Easter Break.
Approved 2026-2027 School Calendar
- The first day of school for students will be August 11, 2026.
Approved a 3 year contract with Wagner Photography for JCCU#1 Student Pictures
Approved the Tech Lease for the 2026-2027 School Year.
