Newton Blanks Lawrenceville 10-0 Behind Big Day from Meinhart

Newton Varsity Eagles shut out Lawrenceville 10-0 Monday at Jasper County Boys and Girls Park, using 12 hits, two home runs and a strong pitching performance to control the game from start to finish.

Gavin Meinhart led Newton at the plate, driving in four runs on two hits. Meinhart doubled in the fourth inning to score two, added a sacrifice fly in the third and capped his day with a solo home run to left field in the sixth.

Newton scored first in the opening inning when Dominic Baltzell grounded out to bring in a run. The Eagles added two more in the third on sacrifice flies by Baltzell and Meinhart before breaking the game open with four runs in the fourth.

Quincy Fulton delivered one of the biggest swings of the day in the fifth, homering to left field and driving in two runs. Meinhart followed later with his solo shot in the sixth to seal the 10-run victory.

Carson Barthelme earned the win for Newton, allowing just two hits over four shutout innings while striking out eight and walking one. Carter Barthelme threw two scoreless innings in relief, giving up one hit while striking out four.

Drake Wolf went 4-for-4 to lead Newton in hits, while Maddox Horner added two hits. Wolf also stole three bases, and Horner stole two as Newton finished with seven stolen bases. The Eagles played clean defensively, committing no errors.

Lawrenceville was held to three hits in the game. Emery Ivers, Teagen Rolland and Liam Morey each collected one hit for the Indians.

Newton finished with 10 runs on 12 hits and no errors, while Lawrenceville had no runs, three hits and two errors.
