Betty was born on August 1, 1942, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Morris and Arabelle “Jean” (Farris) Clagg.  She married Larry Goeckner on October 8, 1960, at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Montrose, Illinois.  To this union, three children were born: Douglas Leon, Dana Lynn, and Dawn Lachelle.

After living in Montrose for many years, Betty and Larry settled on the family farm in Bishop Creek, where they raised hogs.  They owned and operated Montrose’s L&B Inn for many years.  She answered the call to help others at Crossroads Cancer Center as a phlebotomist, where she brought much comfort to those who entered the doors.  Later, she was an office manager at I-70 Truck Center.
