NEWTON — Community members are invited to enjoy a sweet treat and celebrate the beginning of a historic milestone as Peoples State Bank hosts a free Ice Cream Social on Thursday, July 2, in downtown Newton.
The event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on the south side of the square outside Peoples State Bank and serves as one of the first local events marking America’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.
Visitors will receive a free cup of ice cream courtesy of Peoples State Bank while gathering with friends, family, and neighbors to commemorate the nation’s semiquincentennial. Attendees will be able to choose from vanilla, chocolate, or twist ice cream.
Organizers say the event is intended to bring the community together as Jasper County begins recognizing the 250th anniversary of the United States, which will be officially celebrated in 2026.
The Ice Cream Social is open to the public and offers residents an opportunity to learn more about upcoming America 250 activities while enjoying a summer afternoon on the square.
Peoples State Bank encourages everyone to stop by, enjoy a free cup of ice cream, and help kick off what promises to be a year of community celebrations honoring America’s past, present, and future.
