Harold Wilson Worthey, age 93, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 7:27 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at HSHS Saint Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Private family services were held with burial in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. In loving memory of Harold, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 400 West Washington Street Newton, Illinois 62448. Harold was born on May 24, 1933, in Willow Hill, Illinois, the son of Roy and Cleda (Wilson) Worthey. He married Shirley Cummins on March 21, 1952, and she preceded him in death on October 26, 2020.
Harold served in the United States Army from 1953, until 1955, during the Korean War.
Harold worked in the maintenance department of United Technologies in Newton for several years.
Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering and was an avid mushroom hunter.

Son – Ed Worthey (Cindy Utley) of Newton, Illinois
Grandchildren – Sarah (Brad) Horner of Newton, Illinois; Amy (Travis) Tarr of Newton, Illinois and Dana (Gary) Adams of Iola, Illinois
Great Grandchildren – Marshall (Taryn) Tarr, Meyer Tarr (fiancé Laney Hemrich), Marlee Tarr, Cole Horner, Maddox Horner, Maverik Horner, Jayde Adams, Reece Adams, and Maya Adams
Great-great Grandchildren – Oaklee and Hendrick
Daughter-in-law – Cindy Utley of Mattoon, Illinois
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Steve Worthey, sisters Ruby Sroka and Margaret Worthey.
