OLNEY, Ill. — The Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating a double homicide in Olney after two people were found dead Tuesday afternoon.
According to a release from ISP, the Olney Police Department and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office requested the agency’s assistance with the investigation.
At approximately 3:11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, officers responded to two homes in the 400 block of East Monroe Street. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered two deceased individuals in separate residences. The victims have been identified as 52-year-old John D. Jones Jr. and 73-year-old Deborah J. Jones.
Authorities said one person is currently in custody in connection with the investigation. Officials also stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains active, and Illinois State Police said no additional information is being released at this time.
