Dorothy J. Brooks, age 92, of Avon, Indiana

Dorothy J. Brooks, age 92, of Avon, Indiana passed away July 7, 2026.  She was born November 20, 1933 at Allendale, Illinois to Dale and Hazel Turner.  Dorothy married Cecil Brooks at Newton, Illinois on September 11, 1952.

Dorothy graduated from Newton High School, Newton, Illinois in 1951.  After graduation, her first paying job was as a telephone switch board operator. 

Dorothy enjoyed needle work, especially sewing many dresses, shirts, and accessories for her children.  As a family they were avid campers, spending weekends, vacations, and holidays camping with family and friends.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed selling Avon products and meeting new people.

Moving to Indiana with her family in 1971 she found a new hobby of scrapbooking and card making.  Dorothy also was employed at Sears, retiring in 2000. 

Being a loyal member at Falmouth United Methodist Church, Newton, Illinois, for many years where she was a youth group leader and 4H leader.  She moved her membership to Bartlett Chapel, Avon, Indiana where she had been a faithful member for 55 years a church youth group leader and 4H leader. 

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Jane (John) Yocom, Judy (Frank) Kikendall both of Avon, Indiana; sons, Jerry (Margaret) Brooks, Avon, Indiana and Jonathan Brooks, Orange Beach, Alabama.  She leaves numerous nieces, nephews.  Also, Dorothy is survived by sisters, Margaret Fielder, Maxine Turner, and Marilyn Turner; 5 bonus grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. 

Preceding her in death were her parents; spouse, Cecil Brooks; brothers, David Turner and Leon Tuner; bonus grandchildren, Brenda Smith and Brian Smith; great grandchild, Kory Smith; infant brother, Robert Turner.

Graveside Services will be 11am (Central Time) at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Illinois. There will be a time of visitation in the cemetery from 10:30 a.m. until time of services in the cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Sheltering Wings.  Crain Funeral Home, Newton is assisting the family with local arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.conklefuneralhome.com.
