The excitement of a new school year and a new athletic season will officially begin on Friday, Aug. 14, as Newton Community High School and the Athletic Club host their annual Media Night at Chizevsky Football Field. The evening gives the community its first opportunity to meet the Eagles’ fall athletic teams while celebrating the start of another year of competition.
The evening will begin with football pictures at 5 p.m., followed by the Marching Eagles’ pre-game performance from 6 to 6:15 p.m. A welcome will follow before each fall sport is introduced, including cheerleading, golf, soccer, girls tennis, cross country, volleyball, freshman football, and varsity football. Coaches will introduce their athletes, allowing fans to get an early look at the teams representing Newton this fall.
Media Night has become a favorite tradition for athletes, families, alumni, and community members as it marks the unofficial kickoff to the fall sports season. Local media will also be on hand to interview coaches, meet student-athletes, and capture photos ahead of the upcoming season. Organizers hope the event continues to strengthen community support for Jasper Unit #1 athletics and showcase the dedication of its student-athletes.
In addition to celebrating the start of the season, families will once again have the opportunity to preserve their athletes’ memories through sports and activities flash drives offered by the Jasper County Daily News. Packages are available for individual sports, multiple activities, or comprehensive coverage of every sport and activity in which a student participates. Coverage includes fall, winter, and spring athletics, along with activities such as band, chorus, the spring musical, homecoming festivities, concerts, and more. Senior packages also include complimentary senior awards and graduation photos, and separate homecoming flash drives will be available for students who are not enrolled in the full-year package.
