Eagles Knock Off No. 9 Staunton Bulldogs in Home Opener

The Newton Eagles opened their home schedule in dramatic fashion Thursday night, earning a 2-1 victory over the No. 9-ranked Staunton Bulldogs for their fourth win of the season.

Newton struck first in the opening half when Lena Fehrenbacher’s shot created an opportunity for Evan Holder, who finished with a tap-in to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.

Staunton answered early in the second half, finding the equalizer to make it a 1-1 match.

With the clock winding down and just a minute remaining, Newton earned a free kick. Henry Will delivered a well-placed ball into the box, and Brock Anderson provided the finish, heading the ball into the net for the game-winning goal and sending the Eagles to a thrilling 2-1 victory.

Curtis Weber was instrumental in protecting the lead, coming up with several crucial saves throughout the match to keep the Bulldogs from finding the back of the net.

The victory gives Newton its fourth win of the season and an impressive home-opening victory against a ranked Staunton squad.

Final: Newton 2, Staunton 1

A special thank-you goes out to all the family and friends who came out to support the Eagles and helped make the home opener a memorable night.
