The Newton Community High School volleyball team continued its perfect start to the 2026 season, winning three straight varsity matches against Fairfield, Edwards County and Carmi to improve to 11-0.
Newton Defeats Fairfield
Newton opened the three-match stretch at home against Fairfield on September 8. The Eagles battled to a 25-23 victory in the opening set before Fairfield answered with a 25-22 win in the second. Newton responded in the deciding third set, earning a 25-19 victory to take the match, 2-1.
The freshman/sophomore Eagles split their two sets with Fairfield, winning 25-23 before falling 22-17. The JV Eagles dropped both sets, 21-25 and 24-26.
Thomann led Newton’s varsity offense with 10 kills, followed by Hermann with nine and Probst with eight. Schackmann recorded six kills, Schumacher had four and Stanley added one.
Stanley directed the offense with 30 assists. Thomann added two assists, while Hermann, Probst and Schumacher each recorded one.
Defensively, Thomann led the Eagles with 16 digs. Hermann and Stanley each had 15, while Schumacher contributed 10, Miller seven and Probst two.
At the net, Probst recorded three blocks, Schackmann had two, and Stanley and Hermann each added one. Schumacher recorded two aces, while Hermann had one.

Newton Sweeps Edwards County
Newton traveled to Edwards County on September 10 and continued its unbeaten run with a straight-set 25-16, 25-21 victory.
The freshman/sophomore Eagles split their two sets, falling 22-25 before bouncing back with a 25-19 victory. The JV Eagles fell in a three-set battle, winning the opening set 25-16 before dropping the next two, 26-28 and 9-15.
Schackmann led Newton’s varsity attack with eight kills. Stanley, Thomann and Probst each recorded four kills, while Hermann had two and Schumacher added one.
Stanley once again paced the offense with 18 assists. Hermann added two assists and Schumacher recorded one.
Miller led the Eagles from the service line with three aces. Ochs added two and Stanley had one.
Probst led Newton defensively with five digs. Hermann had four, Stanley three, Thomann and Schumacher two apiece, and Miller one. Schumacher also recorded Newton’s lone block.

Eagles Roll Past Carmi
Newton closed the stretch with another dominant performance at Carmi on September 14, sweeping the host team 25-15 and 25-12.
The freshman/sophomore Eagles split their two sets, falling 18-25 before responding with a 25-18 victory. Newton’s JV team earned a convincing sweep, winning 25-12 and 25-15.
Schackmann led the Newton varsity attack with seven kills, while Probst had six and Hermann five. Thomann contributed four kills, while Stanley and Schumacher each had two.
Stanley finished with 20 assists to lead the Newton offense. Thomann had two assists, while Miller, Hermann and Probst each added one.
Hermann led the Eagles’ serving attack with five aces. Miller, Thomann and Schumacher each added one.
Thomann led the defensive effort with seven digs. Hermann had five, Stanley and Probst each recorded three, Miller and Schumacher had two apiece, and Schackmann and Earnest each added one.
Probst recorded two blocks, while Thomann added one.
