
The Newton Eagles put together a dominant second half Friday night, rolling past Robinson, 56-14, on Oct. 2.
Newton trailed 7-0 after the opening quarter but quickly turned the game around, scoring 14 points in the second quarter before exploding for 21 points in each of the final two quarters.
The Eagles finished the night with 523 yards of total offense, including 365 rushing yards and 158 yards through the air.
Maddox Horner led Newton’s ground attack with 212 yards on 15 carries, an average of 14.1 yards per attempt. Horner scored three rushing touchdowns, including a long run of 60 yards.
Quincy Fulton added 50 rushing yards on seven carries and scored twice, while Wyatt Ochs rushed once for 42 yards and a touchdown. William Michl had one carry for 39 yards and a touchdown, while Brayan Ramos contributed 19 yards on two carries.
Hayden Mulvey completed 10 of 18 passes for 158 yards, with a long completion of 48 yards. Fulton led the Eagles with 70 receiving yards on four catches, including a 48-yard reception. Eli Wolf caught four passes for 45 yards, while Maddox Horner had one reception for 37 yards and Dylan Earnest caught one for six yards.
Newton’s scoring was spread throughout the lineup. Horner accounted for 18 points, Fulton scored 12, and Henry Will finished with 14 points. Will also provided a spark on special teams with a 9-yard punt return for a touchdown. Ochs and Michl each added six points.
The Eagles’ defense held Robinson to 286 total yards and just 14 points. Robinson managed 182 rushing yards and 104 passing yards, but Newton’s defense limited the Maroons to only two touchdowns.
Grayson Lingafelter led Newton with nine total tackles, including seven assists. Parker Harris recorded eight tackles, while Owen Ulm had six. Ian Kessler finished with five tackles, and Maddox Horner, Hayden Burnell and Harrison Kinkade each recorded four.
Burnell and Gavin Leachman each recorded a tackle for loss, while Burnell added another tackle for loss and Newton recovered one Robinson fumble.
Newton’s special teams also played a significant role. Henry Will converted all eight of his extra-point attempts and averaged 46.8 yards on nine kickoffs. The Eagles totaled 77 kickoff-return yards and 30 punt-return yards.
The victory was highlighted by Newton’s ability to control the game on the ground, as the Eagles averaged 13.0 yards per rushing attempt and finished with 11 rushing first downs.
After falling behind early, Newton answered with 56 of the game’s next 63 points to pull away for the 42-point victory.
