Jasper County Home and Community Education (HCE) is joining counties across Illinois in celebrating HCE Week, October 12-17, 2026, to raise awareness of the organization and its mission of serving individuals, families and communities through education and volunteer service.
Organized in Illinois in 1924, HCE works to enhance the lives of individuals and families through quality educational programs and experiences while encouraging responsible leadership and community service. Last year, HCE members across Illinois volunteered more than 390,320 hours in service projects benefiting their communities.
October is a busy month for Jasper County HCE, with several activities and fundraisers supporting local children and families.
The organization’s annual pecan fundraiser orders will be distributed Wednesday, October 14, at noon at the University of Illinois Extension Office in Newton.
HCE members will also celebrate the Books for Beginners program this week by visiting the county’s five kindergarten classes. Members will read Bee Makes Tea to students before gifting each kindergartener and teacher a personal copy of the book. The program encourages early literacy and helps introduce young readers to the enjoyment of books.
Jasper County HCE is also conducting its annual RADA Cutlery fundraiser during October and November 2026. Proceeds support youth activities and projects throughout Jasper County, including Toys for Kids, Books for Beginners, the scholarship fund and 4-H programs.
Community members can order RADA products online by visiting the fundraiser link and entering JASPER COUNTY HCE, NEWTON, IL 62448 when prompted. RADA catalogs are also available at the University of Illinois Extension Office in Newton, or orders can be placed through any HCE board member: Marlene Harris, Martha Allison, Kathy Yager, Ann Harding, Jane Casey, Connie Elliott or Judy Millsap.
Those interested in joining Jasper County HCE are encouraged to contact Judy Millsap at 618-554-0917. Annual membership dues are $20, and new members are welcome.
Through its educational programs, fundraising efforts and volunteer service, Jasper County HCE continues to support local families and invest in opportunities for the county’s children.
