Dorothy Marie Czerwonka age 91

Dorothy Marie Czerwonka age 91 of Effingham formerly of Newton passed away Sunday, July
12, 2020 at the Lutheran Care Center, Altamont, Illinois.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 16, 2020 at St. Paul
Lutheran Church, Wheeler. Visitation will from 11:00 a.m. Thursday until time of service in the
church. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, social distancing
and the wearing of masks are requested for the services.
Dorothy was born on November 14, 1928 in West Township, Effingham County, Illinois the
daughter of William Storck and Julia (Bandelow) Storck Gibbons. On March 25, 1951, Dorothy
married Howard Czerwonka. They shared fifty-seven years of marriage before his passing on
February 6, 2009. In addition to being a wife and mother, Dorothy was the secretary for the Lis
Grain Elevator.
A faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Dorothy was active in the Meals on Wheels
program and the braille works which assisted people all over the world. She volunteered with the
St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary delivering mail and working at the front desk. In addition to
volunteering, Dorothy enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, bingo and playing cards. She also
enjoyed cooking and baking. Time spent with family and friends, especially her grandchildren
and her great grandson was always special.
Dorothy will be loved and remembered by her son Fred Czerwonka, wife Tami of Jeffersonville,
IN; daughter Kim Boyd, husband Keith of Ste. Marie; son-in-law Kent Kasserman of Champaign,
IL; grandchildren Kyle Czerwonka of Jeffersonville, IN, Will Czerwonka of Greenville, IN,
Nicole Kasserman of Chicago, Zachary Boyd of Willow Hill and Derrick Boyd of Ste. Marie and
great grandson Noah Boyd of Willow Hill.
Her parents, husband Howard, daughter Vicky Kasserman and sister Velma Bushur preceded her
in death.
Memorial gifts in honor of Dorothy may be made to either the St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the
Alzheimer’s Foundation.
