Mary Lou Dill, age 87
July 23, 1932 – July 19, 2020
Mary Lou Dill, age 87, of Greenup, Illinois, and formerly of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 6:10 AM – Sunday, July 19,
2020, peacefully at her son’s home surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Lou was born on July 23, 1932, in Enfield, Illinois, the daughter of Levi and Minnie (Sanders) Lamp. She graduated
from Carmi High School as Valedictorian of her class. She was the first of three generations of Valedictorians. She
married Eugene Dale Dill on June 28, 1953. They sacrificially and faithfully loved each other for 49 years until his passing August 9, 2002.
Mary Lou worked as a legal secretary for Ab McCallister in Carmi, Illinois. After moving to Newton, Illinois, she worked
for the Law Offices of Eaton and Eaton, and finished her legal career with the Law Offices of Cox, Phillips, Weber,
Tedford, and Heap.
Mary Lou was a longtime faithful member of Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois.
Mary Lou enjoyed watching the birds, marveling in God’s creation, and playing dominos. She enjoyed attending Johnson University Senior Saints week, and taking trips with the Senior Saints group at Scott Avenue Christian Church. She most loved spending time with family and friends. She had a deep devotion for God and enjoyed reading Scripture daily.
Mary Lou is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. Greg and Lisa Dill of Greenup, Illinois; and Tim and Regina Dill of Sugar Land, Texas. Grandchildren: Amanda and Simbarashe Nyamutora of Indianapolis, Indiana; Nicholas Dill of Greenup, Illinois; Justin Larkin of North Augusta, South Carolina; Hannah Dill of Sugar Land, Texas; and honorary
grandchildren Andrew and Michelle Breese of Hobart, Indiana; Katharina Plönissen of Aschaffenburg, Germany. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers: Homer, Herman, and Carl, and her husband.
Please join us to celebrate the life she lived and her eternal meeting with her Savior. There will be a visitation for individuals who have underlying health issues or who have health concerns from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, during which time, masks and social distancing will be required. From 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, July 22, 2020, there will be a visitation open to the public.
Funeral service celebrating Mary Lou’s will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, with Mark Wilkinson and Simbarashe Nyamutora officiating. Burial will be in the White County Memorial Garden Cemetery in Carmi, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Summit Christian Church Memo Line: African Harvest Ministry, Johnson University, or Scott Avenue Christian Church.
