Catherine C. Dominicak, 71, of Bowdle died Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, Pierre, SD.

Catherine Clara Gross, daughter of LaVerne “Ole” (Thommen) and Erwin “Erv” Gross, was born in Winner, SD on October 5, 1949. In 1951, the family relocated to Bowdle where Cate grew up. She graduated from Bowdle High School, Class of 1967. She earned her Registered Nursing degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD, in 1969 and began her nursing career at Bowdle Hospital. In 1974, she met and married John Bennett, III. They settled in Hidalgo, IL in 1978. In 2004, Cate returned to Bowdle. She married Mike Dominicak in 2007. Cate returned to Bowdle in 2012 where she lived the rest of her life.

She retired from nursing in 2016. She loved to read and worked part-time as an assistant librarian at the Bowdle Library.

Cate was a faithful member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church and was also a member of the Bowdle American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, golfing, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Cate is survived by her son, John Bennett, IV and his wife Shasta of Newton, IL; one brother, Donald (Cybelle) Gross of New York City, NY; three sisters—Margaret (Bill) Bobby and Ann (Stuart) Thomsen of Bowdle, and Carmen Barbera of Aberdeen; three grandchildren—Elley, Shay, and Beau Bennett and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Erv, on January 19, 2002; her mother, Ole, on March 26, 2017; one sister (Christy) and an infant brother (Edward).

Cate’s Mass will be livestreamed on the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook’s page and be available at this website Friday night.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Bowdle, with Father Darin Schmidt, Celebrant. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM, led by Norbert Thomas. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery. Pianist will be Lisa Geier and Cate’s granddaughter, Elley Bennett, will sing the Responsorial Psalm. The Mass songs will be “Amazing Grace”, “Precious Lord, Take My hand”, “I Am the Bread of Life”, and “I Know that My Redeemer Lives”. Lector will be nephew Rev. Jacob Bobby, Mass Server will be granddaughter, Shay Bennett, and usher will be Jadon Geier. Bearers will be nephews Matthew Bobby and Rev. Samuel Bobby.
