What musicals have you been in at NCHS and what characters/roles did you play?
My previous musicals included The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, Music Man, Cinderella, and most recently, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
What was your favorite musical and why?
My favorite musical that I’ve been in was The Sound of Music. The soundtrack from The Sound of Music was one of my favorites, and no matter how many times I sang through it it never got old.
What scene in Joseph is your favorite and why? (This does not have to be a scene you are in)
My favorite scene most certainly had to have been Pharaoh’s Song of the King. Portraying Elvis was one of the primary reasons I sought the part, and I had a lot of fun with it throughout the year as we practiced.
What are three things being in the musical have taught you? and how have you learned these?
I’ve learned to appreciate the time and effort that goes into productions such as these, how best to work with others, and how to improvise and adapt to whatever situation I’m put into. These are skills that have naturally improved as I’ve performed in musicals in the past.
What are two pieces of advice you would give young people who want to start performing in musicals at NCHS?
Don’t be afraid of failure or judgement and just audition! The first step to success is just that – the FIRST step. You won’t make the cut if you don’t try, so go for it. Don’t take criticism personally. Always remember that those directing the musical only seek to make the production better.
What qualities do you see exemplified in the adults who help put on this show that you will take with you as you leave NCHS and how do they demonstrate these qualities?
I have learned that teamwork is essential for any good production. Each person involved has a different skill set and different ideas to bring to the table.
What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?
There isn’t just one thing that I will miss. I love musicals. There is nothing that compares to the feeling of being on a stage.
