Eagles stayed in it until the end, but Effingham pulled away late in a 2-1 victory on Friday. The game was tied at one with Effingham batting in the top of the sixth when Quest Hull was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Effingham pitchers struck out six, while Eagles sat down 12.
Effingham got things started in the first inning when Jackson Lee hit a solo homer.
Eagles knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the third inning. William Geier drove in one when Geier singled.
Kalen Reardon got the win for Effingham. The bulldog went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out six. Jack Blickem threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Mason Schafer took the loss for Eagles. The righty allowed six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out seven.
Eagles tallied nine hits. Ben Meinhart and Schafer all managed multiple hits for Eagles. Schafer and Meinhart each collected two hits to lead Eagles.
Effingham racked up eight hits in the game. Blickem and Max Hardiek each managed multiple hits for Effingham. Blickem went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Effingham in hits. Effingham was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Dylan Cunningham had the most chances in the field with six.
