Today, we meet Ryan Klier who is the new Jr. High and NCHS Assistant Principal for Jasper Unit 1.
Can you tell people who might not know you a little about yourself? Family? Education?
What do you feel are the most important qualities of an educator and why?
I was raised in Jasper County. I feel very blessed to have grown up in such a great community with great people who always look out for one another. After graduating from Newton Community High School, I attended McKendree Univeristy to obtain my teaching degree, while also being of member of the Mckendree Bearcats football team. While at Mckendree University, I learned a lot of great life lessons from being a member of the football team while getting my education at such a great institution. My wife is Whitney Klier, who works as a dental hygenist and we have two boys Landry(5) and Easton(2).
What made you decide to go into education?
The decision to go into education was an easy one for me. I enjoy being around the students and the school atmosphere. Watching students achieve goals and assisting them along the way is a passion of mine.
What are some of the greatest strengths you feel our school District has?
Our district has many great strengths, one in particular that comes to mind is how much every district employee cares for our students and is always there to lend a hand when necessary. Building positive relationships should be the foundation of everything we do, from there, we can accomplish anything. One of the greatest improvements I have seen over the last few years are the great teachers coming into our district. As other districts around the state struggle to find teachers, our district continues to bring in high quality teachers with a passion for helping kids achieve at high levels.
What are some of the greatest improvements you have seen over the years?
Technology has become much more of a priority than when I began teaching. Our district is always ahead of the curve on the latest developments in using technology in education.
How have educational priorities changed since you began teaching?
An educators ability to create a positive relationships with students and find effective ways to help students master skills in their respective subject area, are the two most important qualities of an educator. There are various teaching styles and philosophies, so knowing what works for you and your students makes for a great experience for everyone involved.
