Book Signing to honor long-time Newton faculty, Mr. Dave Thompson and Mrs. Loretta Wiman
For Bob Kerans, growing up in the small, rural community of Brocton, Illinois, in 1939, outdoor activities were easily accessible, always enjoyable, and often times necessary to provide food for the family. With the guidance and company of his father and friends, Bob grew to love the outdoors and the many great adventures and life lessons it provided. Kerans spent his adult life guiding adventures and providing opportunities for life lessons to others in his roles as school principal, athletic director, basketball coach, guidance counselor, director of economic development, and mayor of Newton, Illinois.
During the months of quarantine during the COVID pandemic, Bob (and a few friends) authored a book, Re-Living the Dream, a collection of 132 real-life outdoor experiences. The short stories are brought to life in humorous and informative ways.
Bob Kerans will speak at the JCEA meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 19 at Alleys in Newton; beginning at 10:00 a.m. the public is welcome to join Kerans and others at the Alleys.
In memory of Mr. Dave Thompson and Mrs. Loretta Wiman, Kerans is donating 100% of the book sales and donations collected on July 19th to the JCEA Scholarship Fund. The cost of the book is $15.00 (cash or check made payable to JCEA).
