Ed and Marilyn Smithenry of Newton will celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary on September 2, 2021. Ed Smithenry and Marilyn Ludwig (Haarman) were united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Island Grove, Illinois on September 2, 1961. Father Maurice Gavin officiated.
They are the parents of Chris (Maggie) Ludwig of Ankeny, IA; Bruce (Janet) Smithenry of Newton, IL; Angela (Dennis) Helregel of Newton, IL; Deann Wells (Leon Keys) of Martinsville, IL; and Sarah (Gary) Otto of Lerna, IL. They have 12 grandchildren: Garrett (Justine) Helregel, Amber (Kyle) Parks, Alex Ludwig, Clayton Wells, Brianne Helregel, Mason (Madison) Wells, Michelle Smithenry, Stacey Smithenry, Wesley Otto, Savanna Wells, Brittany Smithenry and Morgan Otto. They have 4 great-grandchildren: Cooper Haycraft, Lainey Parks, Griffin Helregel, Marshall Parks and baby Wells expected in December.
Ed and Marilyn worked together for over 30 years while they owned and operated Smithenry Grain and Lime. Ed continues to farm while Marilyn is a retired teller from The Peoples State Bank in Newton after 17 years of service.
