Donald Davis King, age 87, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 5:27 PM – Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at HSHS St.
Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM – Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois, with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. Donald Davis, better known as Don was born on June 18, 1934, in Newton, Illinois, the son of Will H. and Mabel (Davis) King. He married Betty Graham on September 4, 1960, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois.
Don graduated from Newton Community High School with the class of 1952. He then attended Eastern Illinois University
in Charleston, Illinois.
Don served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.
Don was Postmaster of the Newton Post Office for many years. He was a member of the Jasper Post #20 American Legion.
Don enjoyed sports and was a fan of the Newton Eagles and the St. Cardinals Cardinals.
Don is survived by:
Wife of 61 years – Betty King of Newton, Illinois
Nephews – Dr. Eric (Nicole) Graham and Chad (Meredith) Graham
Nieces – Linda (Bill) Huth and Carol Hunsaker
Sister-in-law – Mary Ann Graham
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John David King and Robert Davis King, father and mother-in-law
Harold and Melba Rose Graham and his brother-in-law Don Graham.
