Bruce Lane Babbs, age 72, of Oblong, Illinois, passed away at 5:30 PM – Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.

Visitation will be held 10:00 AM-12:00 PM – Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Services celebrating Bruce’s life will be held following the visitation, with Gail Anderson officiating. In loving memory of Bruce, memorials may be made to the family.
Bruce Lane Babbs was born on March 31, 1950, in Effingham, Illinois the son of Robert and Madonna (Wetherholt) Babbs. He married Sheryl Sheley and to this union 3 children were born. Bruce married Carol Ann Schleder on November 21, 1987, in New Holland, Illinois.
Bruce enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to auctions and collecting antiques. He always had a story to tell, no one was a stranger. Bruce’s greatest love was his grandchildren.

Wife of 34 years – Carol Babbs of Oblong, Illinois
Children – Robert L. (Pam) Babbs of Greenview, Illinois; Tracy J. Bree of Lincoln, Illinois; Sherry A. (Eric) Leever of Beason, Illinois; Jeremy L. (Brittany) Babbs of Oblong, Illinois and Jessica A. Babbs (Terrence Hollis) of Oblong, Illinois.
Grandchildren – Trent, Trevor, Dalton, Madi, Tori, Bruce, McKenzie, Jayce, Tucker, Bryar and Turner
Great grandchildren – Oliver and Kason
Siblings – Allen (Francis) Babbs of Lincoln, Illinois and Danny (Pat) of Middletown, Illinois
Several extended families also survive.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, son Shane Babbs and grandchild Lane Babbs.
