Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County Community Unit School District No. 1 held in the office of the Board of Education on Monday, June 20, 2022. Board members present were Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mr. Bill Meinhart, Mr. Jason Kuhl, Mr. Jerry L. Jed Earnest, Mrs. Mandi Utley, Mr. Brady Shull, and Mrs. Holly Farley. Members absent: None.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.
Agenda was approved as presented
Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. Craig Carr, NCHS Athletic Director introduced the high school coaches who introduced many athletes who were all staters. Jackie Schackmann/Girls Track Coach, Russell Brewer/Trap Shooting Coach, Jason Fulton/Baseball and Football Coach and Todd Short/Boys Track Coach. Brock Tarr/Cross Country Coach was unable to attend. Athletes recognized were Owen Mahaffey, Evan Schafer, Ben Meinhart, Parker Wolf, RyleaBorgic, Laney Hemrich, Alexis Hetzer, Camryn Martin, Karasyn Martin, Sydney Dobbins, Nick Zwilling, Collin Flasch, Carson Brewer, Carder Reich, Addy O’Dell, Jacob Wickham and Dalton Baltzell. The coaches and athletes thanked the board for supporting the NCHS athletics.
There were no public comments.
There were 2 FOIA requests.
Smart Procure requesting all purchase records from 1/1/15 to current. This was denied due to a voluminous request.

Approval of the Technology Lease Purchase Agreement with Dieterich Bank for the 2022-2023 school year.
Approval of Atlantic Research Agreement for the 2022-2023 school year. This is professional development and instructionalcoaching for our teachers.
Approval of changes to the NCHS and JCJH Athletic Handbook for 2022-2023.
Approval of contract continuation with Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System for Athletic Trainer for the 2022-2023 school year at NCHS.
Approval of the Workers Compensation Renewal with Star Insurance Company for 2022-2023.
Approval of the Property Casualty Renewal with PSIC for 2022-2023.
Approval of the financial agreement to purchase buses from Central States Bus.
Approval of the Embarras River Basin Agency Head Start Agreement for the 2022-2023 school year.
Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding with JCCU#1, JCEA and Jeremy Hickenbottom to pay for Jeremy to take Graduate Level Classes to become Dual Credit Certified to teach Dual Credit History at NCHS.
Approval of an Intergovernmental agreement or Memorandum of Understanding with Little Eagles Daycare/Christina Watts for FY23/FY24 school year. Ayes: Kuhl, Rieman, Farley, Meinhart, Utley, Shull. Nays: Earnest. Motion carried 6-1.
Approval of Memorandum of Understanding with JCCU#1, JCEA, and Maria Zumbahlen for her to become a certified licensed librarian at Newton Elementary.
Approval of Applications for Ten-Year Safety Survey Reports for Newton Elementary, Jasper County Junior High, Willow Hill Elementary, Newton Community High School and Ste. Marie Elementary.
Approval to increase lunch prices .10 per lunch for all lunches in 2022-2023. We took action at the May 2022 meeting to keep prices the same – but since that meeting ISBE has come out with more guidance.
Approval of Renewal Contract with Renaissance (Star 360) for 2022-2023 school year.
Approval of changes to the JCCU#1 Classified Handbook for 2022-2023 school year.
Under the superintendent’s report, new Superintendent Joe Sornberger spoke to the board regarding his first week in the district, he is thrilled to work with the district, much appreciation to Mr. Johnson and he is up to the challenge!
Jessica Guzman gave a report on the 3rd and final update for the academic achievement for the 2021-2022 school year.
The board went into executive session at 7:23pm for 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c ) ( 1 ) – To consider information Regarding Appointment, Employment or Dismissal of Individual Employees.
Approval to return to open session at 7:45pm.
Approval of the resignation of Jessica Swick as JCJH 7th Grade Girls Basketball Coach, Jackie Schackmann as NCHS Girls Head Track Coach, Brock Tarr as NCHS Cross Country Head Coach, Brock Tarr as NCHS FCA Sponsor and Todd Short as NCHS Football Assistant Coach all effective immediately.
Approval to accept Laura Volk’s resignation from the Executive Secretary position effective May 27, 2022.
Approval to accept the rescinded letter of retirement from Janet Benefiel effective immediately.
Approval to accept Jessie Smith’s resignation as NE Social Worker effective immediately.
Approval to accept Erin Niebrugge’s resignation as NCHS part time business teacher/CEO facilitator at NCHS effective immediately.
