Nick’s Final Race

The weather was perfect, the crowd was large, and the efforts great to make the final Nick’s Race one of the most memorable. For almost two decades the race has been held in memory of Nick Volk who’s life tragically ended as a result of a car accident twenty years ago.

The race also was a way to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation. Nick was able to help well over four dozen people with his donation. All proceeds of this event will be divided between the Gift of Hope, the Nick Volk Scholarship Fund, the NCHS Cross Country Team, and the NCHS Marching Eagles Drumline.

The Newton Athletic Boosters took on the project of Nick’s Final Race after the event was cancelled during COVID. Keeping with the tradition of the event, the Run was held on the Sam Parr State Park trail where the NCHS Cross Country team runs (the same course ran by Nick during his high school years) and after the race/walk was completed, the NCHS Marching Eagles Drumline performed for those in attendance.
