Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held in the office of the Board of Education on Monday, July 18,
2022. Board members present were Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mr. Bill Meinhart, Mr. Jason Kuhl, Mr. Jerry L.
Jed Earnest, Mrs. Mandi Utley, Mr. Brady Shull, and Mrs. Holly Farley. Members absent: None.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.
Agenda was approved as presented.
Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. Susanne Schackmann and Dr. Blake
Schroedter representing Newton Elite Fitness were present. They spoke on their employee wellness
program to go along with the District’s Community Partnership Grant. There is a section in the grant that
is dedicated to providing health and fitness services to the faculty and staff of Jasper County Schools.
This will be voted on during the August Board Meeting.
There was 1 FOIA request from Nathan Mihelich of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association asking for
name and email addresses of any certified staff who have announced their retirement for any date or
year in the future. This is an annual FOIA request.

Various technology items to be recycled as surplus.
Under the superintendent’s report, Mr. Sornberger informed the board of federal grants, future projects
such as roofs at NCHS and Newton Elementary and HVAC projects at JCJH and Newton Elementary.
As part of our recent foods audit through ISBE, the district was informed that we needed an updated
school wellness plan, this was the first reading of the plan, final reading will be at the August board
meeting.
Approval of Mr. Sornberger as the FOIA officer for Jasper County School District.
Approval of the corporate authorization resolution for Dieterich Bank for District Signature Card for
Superintendent Sornberger.
Approval of Superintendent’s membership and conferences for the 2022-2023 school board.
Approval of the school improvement plan for Illinois Empower Schools, this is necessary with the JCJH
designated as an underperforming school, the school is required to create a school improvement plan in
conjunction with the 1003a grant.
Approval of the bid from Shay Roofing for labor, Garland Materials for the materials and Insulation
Compromise for the insulation replacement cost at a total of $787,633.88 for the portion of the high
school roof to start Spring of 2023.
The board went into executive session at 7:07pm for 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c ) ( 1 ) – To consider information
Regarding Appointment, Employment or Dismissal of Individual Employees.
Approval to return to open session at 7:22pm.
Approval of the resignations of Alicia McClure as NCHS Cheerleading Co-Sponsor, Julia Parish as NCHS
Cheerleading Co-Sponsor and Erica McNeely as NCHS Spanish Club Sponsor all effective immediately.
Approval of the resignations of Julia Parish as NCHS English Teacher, Erica McNeely as NCHS Spanish
Teacher and Becky Oldham as Newton Elementary Teacher all effective immediately.
Approval to employ Heather Kistner as a Newton Elementary Teacher to start with the 2022-2023 school
year. Ayes: Shull, Earnest, Rieman, Farley, Meinhart, Utley. Nays: None. Abstain: Kuhl. Motion carried
6-1.
Approval to employ Chelsea Glosser as a Newton Elementary Counselor/Behavior Interventionists to
start with the 2022-2023 school year.
Approval to employ Justin Kelsheimer as a Newton Elementary Full Time Substitute Teacher to start with
the 2022-2023 school year.
Approval to employ Sheryl Brummer as a Half Time CEO/Half Time NCHS/JCJH Teacher to start with the
2022-2023 school year.
Approval to employ Brock Tarr as a NCHS Assistant Football Coach to start with the 2022-2023 school
year.
Approval to employ Tim Bower as a NCHS Cross Country Head Coach and as a NCHS Head Girls Track
Coach both to start with the 2022-2023 school year.
Approval to employ Jenni Utley and Rebecca Finn as NCHS Cheerleading Co- Sponsors to start with the
2022-2023 school year. Ayes: Shull, Kuhl, Earnest, Rieman, Farley, Meinhart. Nays: None. Abstain:
Utley. Motion carried 6-1.
Approval to employ Megan Marks as the NCHS FCA Sponsor to start with the 2022-2023 school year.
Approval to employ Jennifer Maxon as Board Secretary to start immediately. Ayes: Earnest, Rieman,
Farley, Meinhart, Utley, Shull. Nays: None. Abstain: Kuhl. Motion carried 6-1.
Approval to employ Danielle Fehrenbacher as Assistant Board Secretary/Assistant Bookkeeper to start
as soon as possible.
Approval to advertise for a NCHS Spanish Club Sponsor and an anticipated Newton Elementary School
Counselor position for the 2022-2023 school year.
Meeting adjourned at 7:29pm. Next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 15, 2022 at
6:30pm at the Board Office.
