Coletta Theresa (Steber) Ochs, age 93 of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 9:31 PM – Thursday,
February 23, 2023, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at St.
Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Sainte Marie, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst
celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sainte Marie, Illinois. Visitation
will be held 9:00-10:30 AM – Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the church. In loving memory of
Coletta, memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Coletta was born on March 14, 1929, in Claremont, Illinois, the daughter of August A. “Gus” and
Christine M. (Zuber) Steber. She worked at the International Shoe Factory prior to marrying the love
of her life Leonard Benjamin Ochs. They were united in marriage on November 9, 1960, at St.
Joseph Catholic Church in Olney, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2016.
Coletta was a true homemaker, caring for her ill mother, raising chickens, tending the garden, and
caring for her husband and family. She loved planting and growing flowers. She sold chickens and
farm fresh eggs for many years. Coletta always had fresh baked goods, cookies, pie, cake or rolls
for her family and friends. She was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
She was always eager to assist with the parish picnic and other church events.

Sons – Alan (wife Nancy) Ochs of Willow Hill, Illinois
and Dan (wife Jill) Ochs of Newton, Illinois
Grandson – Owen Ochs of Willow Hill, Illinois and Step Granddaughter – Kirstin (Joshua) Liddiard of
Effingham, Illinois
Great Grandchildren – Joel and Connor Liddiard of Effingham, Illinois
Sister-in-law – Elizabeth “Betty” Ochs of Newton, Illinois
Coletta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Rita Hann and Herman Steber.
