Jasper County Community Unit #1, Board of Education Meeting

Report March 20, 2023

Superintendent’s Report:

  • The Jasper County Board of Education received a resignation letter from Board Member Jed Earnest. This resignation letter is effective March 20, 2023.
  • Jasper County is working on establishing both the PACE Framework and Career Pathways to allow each student in grades 6-12 the opportunity to identify pathways that lead to further career success.
  • PACE:
    • In June 2022, HB 3296 was signed into law (Public Act 102-0917), requiring that school districts establish career pathway endorsement programs and adopt either the model Illinois PaCE Framework or a customized version during the coming years.
    • Requires a school district to offer a program to prepare students enrolled in grades 6 through 12 for a career and technical education pathway by introducing students to career exploration opportunities that allow students to explore a wide variety of high-skill, high-wage, or in-demand career fields.
    • Sets forth what a school district shall provide in its career and technical education pathway program. The law also requires that the working group that developed the PaCE Framework add descriptions of supports that should be provided for younger students, starting with grade 6.
  • Career Pathways:
    • This College and career pathways approach envisions that Illinois residents will be enabled to progressively build toward college and career success through aligned education, training, and employment opportunities over their lifetime. 
    • Career pathways in Illinois are administered by a variety of private, state, and local entities; and thus several state education and workforce committees, including an extensive base of stakeholders, developed agreed-upon definitions to ensure alignment across agencies, legal frameworks, and initiatives. 
  • Holland Construction:
    • Holland Construction has informed the district that two main items (Cooling Units and Electrical Panels)  for the HVAC Project are now on backorder. 
    • These items were to arrive in the district in July of 2023.
    • At this time, we are hearing several different timelines for their arrival.  
    • Our hope is that the project can be completed as scheduled, but that is up in the air at this time.

New Business

  • Approved the 2023-2024 School Calendar
  • Approved Washington D.C. Trip for the 2023-2024 School Year
  • Approved Renewal for Membership with the IHSA and IESA 
  • Approved MOA with JCEA, JCCU1 and Chelsea Glosser for her to become a licensed School Social Worker.  

Resignations/Retirements

  •  Approved the resignation of Troy Bierman as the JCJH Baseball Coach effective immediately.
  • Approved the resignation of Megan Marks as the JCJH Volleyball Coach  effective immediately and FCA Sponsor.
  • Approved the resignation of  Craig Carr as the NCHS JV Basketball Coach effective immediately.
  • Approved the resignation of Michael Hall as a Personal Aide at NES as of April 20, 2023.
  • Approved the retirement of Joyce Houser as a Custodian at NCHS as of May 31,  2023. 
  • Approved the retirement of Keith Blank as a Bus Driver as of April 1, 2023. 
  • Approved the retirement of Debra Einhorn NES Speech Pathologist effective 2025-2026.
  • Approved the resignation of Jordyn Biggs as NES School Counselor effective  at the end of the 2022-2023 School Year.
  • Approved the resignation of Megan Marks as NCHS Mathematics Teacher effective at the end of the 2022-2023 School Year.

Hires

  • Approved  Steffanie Stark, Cynthia Griffith, Grace Hatrich, Cheryl James, Sami Will, Gayle Glumac, Dawn Meinhart, and Kristie Finley for the Strong Girls Program at NE.      
  • Approved to hire Brittany Mette as a NCHS Cheerleading Sponsor 2023-2024.   

Approve to Advertise:

  • Approval to advertise the JCJH Baseball Coaching position for the 2023-2024 

School Year.

  • Approval to advertise a School Counselor position for NES for 2023-2024 

School Year.

  • Approval to advertise a Mathematics position for NCHS for 2023-2024 

School Year.

  • Approval to advertise a NCHS JV Basketball Coaching position for 2023-2024 School Year. 
  • Approval to advertise a JCJH 7th Grade Volleyball and FCA position for 2023-2024 School Year.
