7 Maintenance Truck Driver/Laborers/Operators
The Highway Department and County Engineer cooperate with the Illinois Department of Transportation and other Local Agencies. They are responsible for the planning, programming, design, construction, maintenance, repairs, and inspection for all 181 miles of county roads and 40 bridges which make up the county highway system. The Highway Department also assist with the same items for the 772 miles of roads and 119 bridges on the roadway network of the 11 Township Road Districts as needed. This includes administering Township Motor Fuel Tax Funds and Township Bridge Funds for the Township Road Districts. Typical maintenance activities performed by the Highway Department are (but not limited to) the following:
- Sealcoat: Oil & Chip
- Patching Potholes
- Culvert Repair/Replacement
- Shoulder Repair
- Cleaning/Regrading Ditches
- Mowing County Right-of-Way
- Tree & Bush Trimming
- Installation and Maintenance of Traffic & Rural Reference Signs
- Plowing Snow / Spreading Sand/Salt
Seasonal Weight Limits
Between January 15th and April 15th, the County Roads are subject to weight restrictions due to the stress which occurs to the roadway due to freezing and thawing . Please contact the Highway Department for additional information.
Solid Waste Service
7:00am – 3:30pm, Saturday at the Highway Department
7:30am – 12:00pm, Weekdays at Township Locations as scheduled.
Dumpster rentals are offered when available from April 16th – November 30th.
The Solid Waste Service dumpsters are available for Jasper County Residents to dispose of their solid waste. The posted restricted items are no appliances which have not had the freon properly removed, yard waste, tires, asbestos materials, electronic items (televisions, monitors, printers, cable receivers, stereo equipment, electronic keyboards, facsimile machines, scanners, satellite receivers, speakers, video game consoles, electric mice, small scale servers, computers, digital converter boxes, videocassette recorders, portable digital music players, digital video disc recorders & players). These are all items which are banned from Illinois Landfills.
Recycling
To help with disposal of the electronics items which are not permitted for disposal in the Solid Waste Service dumpsters, an electronic recycling collection is held at the Highway Department twice a year. The dates on which these events are held are the last Saturdays in March and August from 7:00am – 1:00pm. Metal recycling is available during Saturday hours at the Highway Department
