Stanley Eugene Cox, 71, passed away at 6:00 am on Thursday, April 27, 2023, in the comfort of his own home in Hidalgo, IL surrounded by family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Monday at the funeral chapel. The burial will be in the Greenup Cemeterywith Military Rites by the Cumberland County Veterans.
Stanley was born on March 9, 1952, in Mattoon, IL, the son of Joe and Helen (Brown) Cox. He married Sharon(Glosser) Cox on October 8, 1983. He is survived by his sons, Bill (Cindy) Hutchison, and Roy Smith (Ronda); daughters, Trina (Brian) Myerscough, Tonya (Joe) Green, Tracey Hutchison; grandchildren Tara (Jason) McAllaster, Brad Green, Tiffany (Chad) Phillips, Melissa (Josh) Sprecher, Tayleigh (Savannah) Ruiz-Nolan, Tearah Stateler,Zachary Hutchison, Quinton Seeley (Kayla), Brayden Smith, Taylor (Max) King, Leah (Mack)Waggoner, Logan Smith, and Rylan Smith; twenty-four great-grandchildren;sisters, Patty Gentry and June Bland; and many special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and his siblings Olive Gray, Barbara Leuken, JoAnn Miller, Albert Cox, Larry Cox, Rita Cox, Billy Joe Cox, and Rose Russell.
Stanley was a Veteran of the Army (1972-1974) andretired from the Illinois
Department of Transportation. Stanley supported his family through any special
event in life. He enjoyed teaching each of his grandchildren how to fish, ride the
four-wheeler, play cards, marbles, and washers. Stanley told each one of his family
members that they were his favorite, but really, he was the favorite.
