Eagles Defeat North Clay in Final Home Game of Regular Season

Newton Varsity Eagles defeated North Clay/Clay City Cardinals Varsity 2-0 on Monday as four pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Carder Reich induced a fly out from Alex Boose to finish off the game.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Newton Varsity Eagles pitchers struck out seven, while North Clay/Clay City Cardinals Varsity pitchers sat down three.

Newton Varsity Eagles got things started in the second inning when David Ferguson singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

One bright spot for North Clay/Clay City Cardinals Varsity was a single by Daniel Warren in the third inning.

Max Meinhart earned the victory on the hill for Newton Varsity Eagles. The righthander went two innings, allowing zero runs on three hits and walking zero. Reich and Dylan Gier entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Carder Walden took the loss for North Clay/Clay City Cardinals Varsity. Walden lasted one and one-third innings, allowing two hits and one run.

Brandon Einhorn started the game for Newton Varsity Eagles. The pitcher went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking zero

Gage Reynolds, Payton Harris, Drake Wolf, Ferguson, Reich, and Isaac Flowers each collected one hit to lead Newton Varsity Eagles.
