
States Attorney James Treccia has filed multiple charges in relation to the murder of Terry Eastep on August 7th.
Paul “Scotty” Schoonover has been charged with five class M felonies and two class 3 felonies.. Filed with the court were two class M felonies of murder/intent to kill/injure, two counts of murder/strong probably kill/injure, one count of murder/other forcible felony, and two counts of aggravated battery/great bodily harm,
On June 8, 2023 at approximately 6:00 am at the 100 block of East Marion Street, the Newton Police Department requested the assistance of the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigations in investigating an aggravated battery which occurred at the above location. The victim was airlifted to a regional hospital with life threatening injuries. While in the hospital, the victim died as a result of the injuries sustained during the incident.
Schoonover’s first appearance in court will be on August 8th at the Jasper County Courthouse.
