Mary Lucille (Short) Trotter, age 88, of Mattoon, Illinois,formerly of Champaign – Urbana, Illinois, passed away at 1:55 PM – Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at
Copper Creek Cottages, Mattoon, Illinois.
Funeral Services for Mary Lucille Trotter, age 88. will be held at Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. The visitation will be heldon Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Burialwill take place after the services in Harmony Cemetery in Rural Crawford County, Illinois. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in

Mary was born on July 24, 1935, in Yale, Illinois, thedaughter of Ernest and Freda (Walden) Short.
Mary married Lyle Trotter and he preceded her in death in 1999.
Mary worked as a switchboard operator for 37 years for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company. Mary handled the final call when they closed the Champaign office. Marywould often bake cakes for special occasions, including several weddings and birthdays, and would cater for special events when requested. Mary loved her sisters and would depend on her next younger sister for many of her needs as time went on. Mary had a special interest in older cemeteries and would often take pictures of unique or interesting headstones.
Mary is survived by her sisters; Kathy (Chuck) Ormsby of Mattoon, Illinois,
and Esther (Jim) Ferry of Fort Collins, Colorado.
Nephew, Paxton Ormsby, Niece Chris (Mark) Barnhart, and Niece Rachel (Wylie) Smith
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Hazel Ann Bender
