Eagles Football Wins Senior Night

*Editor’s Note: The NCHS Marching Eagles seniors were recognized after performing their halftime show and photos from both the halftime show and the senior recognition will be presented in a separate article. Additionally, the JCJH Girls softball team who placed third were recognized between the first and second quarters, their photos will be a separate photo gallery as well. The Newton Eagles defeated the Marshall Lions in senior night action on their final home game of the season. The Eagles opened the game with recognition of their senior football players and cheerleaders.

The Eagles scored two touchdowns in the first quarter when Max Meinhart handed the ball to Meyer Tarr who ran into the end zone for a seven-yard gain. Hayden Mulvey then kicked a good extra point. The second touchdown of the first quarter came when Meinhart threw a pass to Evan Zumbahlen who ran the ball into the endzone for an 88-yard gain. Mulvey again kicks the extra point.

In the second quarter, the Eagles scored when Meinhart handed the ball to Tarr who ran in for a five-yard gain. Mulvey scored his third extra point of the night.

In the third quarter, the Eagles scored two more times. Once Meinhart threw the ball to Zumbahlen who ran the ball into the endzone for a 28-yard gain with Mulvey again scoring the extra point and again when Meinhart handed the ball to Tarr who ran the ball into the endzone from the eight-yard line. Mulvey throws an incomplete pass for the PAT.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles scored one touchdown when Tarr ran the ball for a two-yard gain and the final touchdown of his high school career. Payton Harris attempted the PAT from the 6 and was tackled.
