February 27, 2024
As always, the City of Newton’s customers are in the forefront of our thoughts when we make decisions that impact services and costs.
The City’ s current power supply contract will expire on May 31, 2024, and the City has entered into a one-year power supply agreement with its current supplier, Dynegy. Our goal was to minimize the effects of inflation and rising energy costs while maintaining exceptional service and consistency.
Dynegy brought the most value to the City with the least impact on customer cost. Prior to entering into the new agreement, the City solicited and evaluated power supply proposals and opportunities from several industry providers.
After evaluating each proposal’s pricing and included energy management services, the City’ s Electric Committee and City Council agreed that it was in the best interest of the City to stay with Dynegy. The City will continue, over the next year, to proactively evaluate future power supply opportunities.
Sincerely,
Joshua J. Kuhl, Mayor
