
The Newton Public Library will be having its Summer Reading Shows starting on June 4th and going to July 9th at West End Reception and Events 202 Museum Drive in Newton. The shows are free to the public. All programs will be on Tuesdays and will start at 10:30 am. Children do not have to participate in the Reading Program to attend the free shows. There will be six weekly shows this year. Please call or email the library if you have any questions.

The Reading Program registration will begin on Monday, May 20 and go through June 4th at the library. you may call the library to sign up for the Reading Program. Children 0-16 will receive a book log to keep track of their reading. The goal for Pre-K to 5 years old is 10 minutes per day. 6-11 year old reading goals are 15 minutes a day. 12-16 year olds are 30 minutes a day for six weeks.
The children who meet their reading goal will earn a pizza coupon for a personal pan size pizza provided by Joe’s Italian Foods and Pizza.
Children who do not have a library card are still encouraged to participate in the Summer Reading Program. Any books from home are good for achieving their goals as well as reading in the library. There will also be goals and prizes for the kids at heart too.

Story Time:
During the summer there will be “Story Time” for children preschool through second grade. Following the story time there will be a craft time as well. This will be on Thursdays at 10:30 am at the library starting June 6th.
Coloring Contest:
Starting June 3rd, there will be a coloring contest. To participate stop in the library to pick up the coloring page and return it by June 28th. Winners will be announced by July 5.
Make and Take Crafts:
The library will be having crafts again this year as well as to-go bags of ready to make crafts. All that will be needed at home is glue, crayons, and your imagination.
For older siblings looking for things to do in the summer, contact the library to see what they have to motivate and challenge them to read. There will be prizes during the program for them as well.
Painting with Tia
The library will be offering Painting with Tia on Thursday, June 13th and June 20th from 2 pm to 4 pm. June 13th will be for students who are 12-16 years old and June 20th are for students ages 7 to 11 years old. Students will sign up to paint an 11×14 canvas. When the student signs up they will choose from four options. Sign up will begin May 22 space is limited.
Summer Pool Party:
A Summer Pool Party will be held at the Newton Aquatic Center in. July.
