Jasper County Community Unit #1, Board of Education Meeting
Report May 20, 2024
- The 2023-2024 School Year has officially ended as the students of the Jasper County School District had their last day of school on May 20, 2024.
- With that said, I am excited to see the start of all the summer camps for sports and learning this summer.
- The District will also be in full swing of multiple building projects.
- These projects include:
- HVAC at Newton High School and Newton Elementary School
- Roofs at Newton High School and Jasper County Junior High
- Greenhouse for Newton Community High School

Superintendent’s Report:
Amended FY 2024 Budget
- The District will hold an amended budget hearing on June 17, 2024 at 6:20 p.m. at the District Office.
- The amended budget hearing is to discuss updates to the original budget.
- Once approved, the amended budget will be sent to the Illinois State Board of Education.
Amended Budget Overview:
- The amended budget overall looks good.
- The main concern for the amended budget is the Transportation Fund.
- Jasper County is the largest land mass district in the State of Illinois.
- With this, a great cost is spent on transportation.
- The State of Illinois continues to prorate payments to school districts for transportation.
- Basically, the state is not fully funding transportation. When this happens Districts must use other funds to help offset these costs.
- As for revenue, the Jasper County School District has used the ESSER and Community Partnership Grants to pay for several school and community projects. These grants end this summer.
