NCHS Lady Eagles Fall In Super Sectionals

NCHS Lady Eagles had trouble keeping up with Carterville Varsity Lions in an 8-1 loss on Monday.

Carterville Varsity Lions got on the board in the top of the second inning after Caidence Phillips singled, Kendall McCalla singled, Carterville Varsity Lions scored on a passed ball, and Kennedy Rushing singled, each scoring one run.

Carterville Varsity Lions scored one run in the top of the third on a solo home run to right field by Maddie Rosenberry.

Taryn Ford homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh for the Carterville Varsity Lions.

Amelia Collins started the game for NCHS Lady Eagles. The starting pitcher allowed nine hits and seven runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Phillips stepped in the circle first for Carterville Varsity Lions. They gave up four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out 16 and walking none.

Leadoff hitter Bailee Frichtl led NCHS Lady Eagles with two hits in three at bats. Sally Mahaffey led NCHS Lady Eagles with one run batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. NCHS Lady Eagles turned two double plays in the game.

Carterville Varsity Lions amassed 13 hits in the game. Ford led Carterville Varsity Lions with two runs batted in. They went 3-for-4 on the day. McCalla, Rushing, and Rosenberry each collected multiple hits for Carterville Varsity Lions. Carterville Varsity Lions were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Rosenberry had the most chances in the field with 16.
