
Paul S, Schoonover pled guilty to one count of murder/intent to kill/injure and was sentenced to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections along with three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The remaining counts were dismissed as well as other pending cases as part of the plea deal.
The sentence is in regards to the murder of Terry Eastep on August 7th, 2023.
Paul “Scotty” Schoonover was charged with five class M felonies and two class 3 felonies.. Filed with the court were two class M felonies of murder/intent to kill/injure, two counts of murder/strong probably kill/injure, one count of murder/other forcible felony, and two counts of aggravated battery/great bodily harm,
On June 8, 2023 at approximately 6:00 am at the 100 block of East Marion Street, the Newton Police Department requested the assistance of the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigations in investigating an aggravated battery which occurred at the above location. The victim was airlifted to a regional hospital with life threatening injuries. While in the hospital, the victim died as a result of the injuries sustained during the incident.
