Eagles Win Senior Night and Face Olney and Pana

The Newton Eagles have had a busy stretch, facing off against Olney, OPH, and Pana in recent matchups. The team displayed resilience and strong performances in key moments but faced challenges along the way.

Newton vs. OPH (February 11, 2025)

Playing at home, the Eagles secured a solid 49-35 victory over OPH. After a slow first quarter (6-6), Newton surged ahead in the second, outscoring OPH 19-8. Kody Bergbower led the charge with 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Hayden Mulvey contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds. The team’s defense held OPH to just 7 points in the third quarter, ensuring a comfortable lead heading into the final period.

With this win, Newton improved to 8-16 on the season and 2-3 in LIC play.

Newton vs. Olney (February 11, 2025)

In a hard-fought game on the road, Newton edged out Olney 47-40. The Eagles started strong, leading 11-2 after the first quarter. Despite a close battle in the second half, they managed to hold off Olney’s late push.

Quincy Fulton played a key role, scoring 6 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, while Bergbower added 11 points and 6 rebounds. The team shot well from beyond the arc, hitting 7 three-pointers in the game.

The victory moved Newton to 9-16 overall and 3-3 in LIC play.

Newton vs. Pana (February 15, 2025)

Facing a tough opponent in Pana, the Eagles struggled offensively and fell 32-54. The game was close early, with Newton trailing just 21-25 at halftime. However, Pana dominated the third quarter 20-5, putting the game out of reach.

Bergbower was once again a standout performer, leading the team with 13 points. Quincy Fulton added 6 points, while Nick Bierman chipped in 3 points. Pana’s Lynch led all scorers with 18 points.

With the loss, Newton dropped to 9-17 on the season. Their next game is a home matchup against Casey on Tuesday.
