Monday Musical: “Newsies” NCHS Senior Cast Member Isaac Street

NCHS Senior Isaac Street, son of Shad and Marcia Street, will take the stage in the musical performance of “Newsies” as “Jack Kelly” on April 10 through the 13th, with show times of 7 pm for Thursday through Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday. Tickets will be available from cast members beginning February 17 and now in the offices of the local schools.

What musicals have you been in at NCHS and what characters/roles did you play?

: Mary Poppins (Michael Banks), Cinderella, Joseph (Benjamin), White Christmas(General Waverly), Oklahoma (Will Parker)

What was your favorite musical and why?

:Mary Poppins, it was the first time I ever experienced the feeling of performing in front of a big crowd, and i had a lot of fun.

What scene in Newsies is your favorite and why? (This does not have to be a scene you are in)

:I like the scene with the song Once and For All, because i think it’s a really cool song, and when the whole cast is singing the very last chord, it’s really cool.

What are three things being in the musical have taught you? and how have you learned these?

:Musical has taught me how to perform in front of a big crowd. It has also taught me how to control my nerves. And lastly it has also strengthened my leadership skills.

What are two pieces of advice you would give young people who want to start performing in musicals at NCHS?

:Try everything. Don’t be scared to go for the role you want. Believe in yourself.

What qualities do you see exemplified in the adults who help put on this show that you will take with you as you leave NCHS and how do they demonstrate these qualities?

:The adults that help put on the show are extremely generous, even if they don’t have any kids in the show, they will do anything to make the show amazing.

What about Newsies is different from other musicals you have been in?

:It is more upbeat and alive with a very good soundtrack.

What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?

:Once the curtain closes, I will have one less opportunity to perform music in front of a crowd. Performing music has been a big part of my life, and I will miss musical because of that.
