Jasper County Community Unit #1, Board of Education Meeting
Report April 28, 2025
Special Thanks:
- A special thanks to Holly Farley for her years of services to the Jasper County School District Board of Education.
Oath of Office:
- Evan Semple, Mandy Rieman, and Brady Shull were seated as board members after the Spring Election.
- Their term will run until Spring of 2029.
Superintendent’s Report:
- The Jasper County School District continues to look at building an elementary addition to Newton Elementary School.
- The Board was given an update on the timeframe to complete this project.
- The goal is to have this addition built during the 2026-2027 school year.
- The addition will be placed on the east side of Newton Elementary School.
- The addition will be for the pre-k and k students from Ste. Marie.
- The addition will include two preschool classrooms, 6 kindergarten classrooms, great room space, and rooms/offices for faculty and staff.
- This project will be paid for by a combination of the Energy Transition Grant, 1% Sales Tax and District reserves out of the Operation & Maintenance Funds.
- There will not be a bond referendum used to pay for this project.
New Business
- Approved an agreement with Upchurch Architects to render drawings for the Newton Elementary Addition.
- Approved Holland Construction for pre-construction work in conjunction with the Newton Elementary Addition.
- Approved the OPPA Renewal for the 2025-2026 School Year.
- Approved a contract with Hudl to stream athletic events.
- This replaces the NFHS streaming that the District currently uses.
- As of now, Hudl does not charge fans for a streaming fee.
- Approved Social Emotional Curriculum for SME and NES for 2025-2026
